Following the tragedy in Paris last week, ISIS released a threatening video this Monday proclaiming the US as their next target. ISIS militants clad in scarves warned that America would soon “suffer the same fate” as France.

“We say to the states that part in the crusader campaign that, by God, you will have a day God willing, like France’s and by God, as we stuck France in the center of its abode in Paris, then we swear that we will strike America at its center in Washington.”

Could this video herald another 9/11? South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham thinks so. “Without American boots on the ground in Syria and Iraq, we’re gonna get hit here at home,” he said on Monday morning. “And if you don’t understand that, you’re not ready to be commander-in-chief in my view.”

According to the New York Times, the US has conducted nearly 2,600 airstrikes against ISIS in Syria since 2014. Senator Graham advocated for increased military intervention in Syria, asking for 10,000 American boots on the ground. President Obama’s response was to send only a few dozen Special Forces to the area.

“There is a 9/11 coming, and it is coming from Syria if we don’t disrupt their operation inside of Syria,” said Graham.

Washington’s Response

After the release of the frightening video, authorities in Washington said they had zero information in regards to forthcoming attacks. An FBI spokesperson promised protection with the following statement:

“The Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are closely monitoring the unfolding events in Paris and we remain in contact with our counterparts in the region. At this time, there is no specific or credible threat to the United States. We will not hesitate to adjust our security posture, as appropriate, to protect the American people. DHS and the FBI routinely share information with our state, local, federal, and international law enforcement, intelligence and homeland security partners, and continually evaluate the level of protection we provide at federal facilities.”

Washington police chose not to make a statement regarding the video. However, Police Chief Cathy Lanier dispatched additional officers to the streets until “we feel circumstances dictate that they are no longer needed.”

“We must always remember,” she added, “that Washington will always be an attractive target to those wishing to do harm to us.”

The Video

isis-videoThe 11-minute video, which was released by the Salahuddin-based militant group Wilayat Kirkuk, celebrates the attacks in Paris as well as promises upcoming attacks against the US and other countries.

The video is titled “The Joy of Muslims over Paris Operations” and includes footage of French President François Hollande speaking in the wake of the bombings last Friday that killed over 100 people.

“I say to the European countries that we are coming, coming with booby traps and explosives, coming with explosive belts and (gun) silencers and you will be unable to stop us because today we are much stronger than before,” says a man in the video who has been identified as Al Ghareeb the Algerian.
