Best Way to End Government Shutdowns – Congress Works Without Pay

Last Friday, President Donald Trump offered his THIRD compromise to the Democrats to end the government shutdown. However, it may only be temporary as his deal to re-open the government and get federal workers their pay only lasts a few weeks before it could happen again.

I’ve often thought about how Congress reminds me of labor unions. Every month, we pay our taxes just like union members pay their dues. Members of Congress then do what they want, just like many union officials.

Over the past decade especially, a number of labor unions actively campaigned against Republicans. During the 2014 presidential campaign season, some unions actually paid union members and bussed them to Romney campaign rallies with instructions to protest loudly and be as disruptive as possible. Union members that didn’t participate were reported to have received some union retribution, so, whether or not union members were Democrats who supported Obama or Republicans who supported Romney, they were forced to protest against Romney.

Over the years, a number of unions have had their members go on strike against their employers. In Arizona, the union for copper miners went on strike for 9 months. Mining company officials often wanted to meet and try to negotiate with the union, but union officials frequently refuse to meet them, sometimes for several months at time.

In the meantime, the union miners didn’t get paid. Most lost their homes, cars and many lost their families. The strike devastated the union miners, but the union officials didn’t seem to care.

Sound familiar? Sounds just like what is happening in Congress at the moment, doesn’t it?

I equate Democrats as being the same as union officials. (After all, most union leaders are radical Democrats, which explains why they don’t really care if their union members lose everything during a strike).

Currently, there are 800,000 federal employees who are not getting paid as the government shutdown enters its history making 5th week.

Democrats have no problem spending $165 billion of taxpayer money every year because of illegal aliens. They have no problems sending billions of taxpayer dollars to other countries, some of which have vowed to wipe both the United States and Israel off the face of the earth.

Yet, they refuse to fund $5.7 billion for a border wall to protect America from illegal aliens, criminals, terrorists and drugs.

President Donald Trump is like the mining company officials who wanted to meet and negotiate with the union. He has offered more than one compromise to Democrats, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi refuses to consider any form of compromise unless it is on her terms. Then she has the audacity to tell the nation that Trump is holding the nation hostage and is responsible for federal workers not getting paid.

For years, I’ve advocated that when a union goes on strike and the workers are not getting paid, that union officials should also go unpaid until the strike is resolved and workers are back to work and getting paid.

I propose the same thing happen with members of Congress. If many federal employees are being forced to work without pay during a government shutdown, then members of Congress should also be forced to work without pay until the shutdown is ended.
